Quantum Bloom @ PRACTICE Gallery

Salt is essential to life. It has been used by almost every culture in rituals of protection and purification. From the Roman Catholic tradition of preparing holy water with salt to the Indian custom of applying salt to wounds to draw away unhealthy spirits, it is believed that salt is holy, it safeguards and preserves. Yet in excess, it corrodes and destroys.

Insects have long been a symbol of regeneration and renewal, as demonstrated by the Ancient Egyptian custom of carrying clay amulets in the form of scarabs for their life-ensuring powers. Roaches are survivors. The hundreds of bodies populating this installation were individually formed by hand in an act representing their generative exuberance. In their holiness, these tiny bits of matter and energy flourish in quantum bloom.
